Urban archology

So for quite sometime now i have been wanting to go bottle hunting. the though of recovering peoples garbage from the past might sound odd. but its very exciting. last week i was at mill creek antiques( by the way i think that it is one of the best antique stores in town) and i happened to ask the owner if he knew anyone in town who might be able to help me get started. and he handed me a card for the privy posse. i called them up and we met this Saturday. they came to my house and we located what we thought to be the old out house. and they started digging. now we spent 4 hours on this dig and it was quite odd we started putting out tons of old nails and pieces of jars and bottles, then we found the 1 medicine bottle from the late 1800's. and all of a sudden we stooped getting signs that we were digging in the right spot. there was TONS of river rock and we were running out of time. so we decided to call it quits. and we are thinking about bring in a back hoe clearing the area out. and we what we may find. You know it was one of the most exciting things that i have done in a long time and definitely plan on doing this again.

my love for historic walla walla

This afternoon i walked through the antique mall remembering my childhood. and most of all my great-grandmother. her house was full of amazing things she had collected over the years. But because of hard times she had to sell off one by one. and then there was the time my grandmother stole all of her carnival glass and pawned them all. i guess i walk through there hoping to find something that once belonged to her.

Also I just have this love for older homes and antiques. about 4 years ago my husband and i purchased a small bungalow built in 1905 and started restoring it. then this summer i noticed a very large Victorian home that had been abandoned and was all bored up. I got the owners information and asked if he'd be willing to sell it. i met with him the next day and instantly fell in love. to my surprise the inside had been majorly renovated and then just left for vacant for 3 years. it looks a couple months but we became the Proud owners at the end of June 2009. and and been working hard on it ever since. and I believe this weekend we will finally be able to move in.. YAY!!
